Chuỗi workshop “Những khung cửi nhỏ” với sự hướng dẫn của nghệ sĩ Nguyễn Quốc Thành và nhóm queer w(e)aves nằm trong dự án Tầng chờ diễn ra tại Cung Thiếu nhi Hà Nội từ ngày 9-17/11/2024. Nguyễn Quốc Thành là nghệ sĩ, giám tuyển, người đồng sáng lập và thành viên ban giám tuyển Nhà Sàn Collective. Năm 2013, anh sáng lập liên hoan Queer Forever!, dự án nghệ thuật tiếp diễn dưới nhiều hình thức học hỏi và yêu đương queer. Năm 2024, Queer Forever! phối hợp cùng Nhà Sàn Collective và Bà Bầu AIR tổ chức “mấy mảnh vải mấy đường chỉ mấy nơi the queer w(e)aves” trong khuôn khổ Queer Ideas do Viện Goethe Hà Nội khởi xướng và tài trợ.

Xuyên suốt lễ hội, không gian workshop trở thành một khung cửi lớn được tạo nên bởi những khung cửi nhỏ biến tấu từ bàn ghế, góc tường, ô cửa và những đồ vật tìm thấy trong Cung Thiếu nhi. Tại đây len, chỉ, vải không phải thớ sợi duy nhất. Những khung cửi nhỏ mời công chúng cùng thêu, dệt, đan móc, khâu vá, mang quần áo cũ đến sửa sang thêm thắt. Tiếng kéo cắt, tiếng máy khâu, lời hỏi han qua lại xen với những thao tác bện, đan, móc, buộc, giăng, dệt. Giữa những mảng dệt đang thành hình, các buổi workshop có hướng dẫn sẽ diễn ra trong khung giờ từ 15 đến 17 giờ chiều hàng ngày với các hoạt động như sau:

• Dệt sương sương (09/11), dành cho trẻ em từ 6-8 tuổi có người lớn đi kèm muốn học cách dệt hoạ tiết nhiều màu bằng len sợi trên khung dệt tự chế.
• Dệt đôi (10/11), học - chơi - dệt trên khung cửi di động thiết kế đặc biệt để hai người vận hành cùng lúc.
• Thêu xinh (11/11) tập thêu các cài áo nhỏ xinh với motif hoa quả hoặc thú cưng.
• Đan móc (12/11) làm sản phẩm đơn giản từ len sợi bằng các kỹ thuật đan móc cơ bản.
• Sang sợi (13/11) giới thiệu kỹ thuật sang sợi cơ bản.
• Sửa quần áo (14/11) người tham gia mang theo quần áo cũ đến cùng chỉnh sửa, biến tấu.
• Thêu xinh xinh (15/11) tập thêu các cài áo nhỏ xinh xinh với motif hoa quả hoặc thú cưng.
• Nhuộm tự nhiên (16/11) giới thiệu kỹ thuật nhuộm vải bằng tinh bột nghệ, vỏ hành và gỗ vang.
• Nhuộm mau bay (17/11), dành cho trẻ em từ 6-8 tuổi có phụ huynh đi kèm muốn thử trải nghiệm nhuộm tự nhiên với hoa lá cỏ cây tươi.

Mỗi buổi workshop có thể đón tối đa 10 người tham gia, ưu tiên theo thứ tự đăng ký. Chúng tôi hy vọng người tham gia có thể đem thành phẩm từ workshop về nhà như những kỷ niệm nhỏ về dự án.

The “Small Looms” workshop series, guided by artist Nguyen Quoc Thanh and the queer collective w(e)aves, is part of the Waiting Floor project, held at Hanoi Children’s Palace from November 9-17, 2024. Nguyen Quoc Thanh, an artist, curator, and co-founder of Nha San Collective, established the Queer Forever! festival in 2013, a project that explores queer love and learning through various artistic forms. In 2024, Queer Forever! collaborated with Nha San Collective and Ba Bau AIR to organize “a few pieces of fabric, a few threads, a few places the queer w(e)aves”, within the framework of Queer Ideas initiated and sponsored by the Goethe Institute Hanoi.

Throughout the festival, the workshop space becomes a large loom made up of small looms transformed from tables, chairs, wall corners, windows and objects found in the Children's Palace. Here, wool, thread and fabric are not the only fibers. Small looms invite the public to embroider, weave, crochet, sew, and bring old clothes to repair and embellish. The sound of scissors, sewing machines, and greetings interspersed with the braiding, knitting, crocheting, tying, stretching and weaving operations. Between the weaving pieces taking shape, guided workshops will take place from 3 to 5 pm every day with the following activities:

• Little weaving (November 9), for children aged 6-8 with an adult accompanying them who want to learn how to weave colorful patterns with yarn on a homemade loom.
• Couple weaving (November 10), learning - playing - weaving on a specially designed portable loom for two people to operate at the same time.
• Pretty embroidery (November 11) practice embroidering cute little buttons with fruit or pet motifs.
• Crochet (November 12) make simple products from yarn using basic knitting techniques.
• Thread changing (November 13) introduce basic thread changing techniques.
• Clothing alteration (November 14) participants bring old clothes to edit and transform together.
• Lovely embroidery (November 15) practice embroidering cute little buttons with fruit or pet motifs.
• Natural dyeing (November 16) introduce fabric dyeing techniques using turmeric starch, onion peel and sapan wood.
• Quick Dyeing (November 17), for children aged 6-8 with accompanying parents who want to experience natural dyeing with fresh flowers, leaves and plants.

Each workshop can accommodate up to 10 participants, on a first-come, first-served basis. We hope participants can take home the finished product from the workshop as a small memento of the project.
